Annotation
A hard-bop bassist, Mr Watkins was a member of prestigious 60s formations, including The Jazz Messengers, Charles Mingus' formations, not to mention numerous sideman contributions for Jackie McLean, Pepper Adams, Kenny Burrell, Donald Byrd or Sonny Rollins.
He unfortunately died young and left us very few sessions on his own.
