Camden (launched circa 1973; UK only as of 2004)
~ Label
Annotation
Camden's history is tied to RCA Camden, a budget label that was launched in 1955 by RCA Victor. By 1973, RCA had already licensed the existing Camden LP line to Pickwick International, but it continued to use the Camden name for some new releases up until 1978. RCA resumed the use of the Camden name for CD reissues until parent company BMG Music resurrected Buddha Records in 1998 as their reissue label.
Fast-forward to the 2004 merger of BMG and Sony, the Camden name was retired (along with RCA Victrola and RCA Gold Seal) in North America, when the label was absorbed into RCA Red Seal Records. As of 2008, Sony Music Entertainment retired the Camden name, but re-registered Camden as music entertainment trademark at the USPTO. The Camden name is however still used for budget CDs in Britain and is now operating as a division of Sony Music UK.
