Mode Records (50s jazz)

Annotation

"Music Of the Day"

A short lived west-coast cool jazz label. Also known for its lavish painted LP covers (by Eva Diana).

Possibly, original LPs and/or VSOP re-issues distributed in New Zealand by Just Jazz Records.

All releases are 12" LP, and they were all issued during the (brief) period of activity of the label (but one unreleased Mode #128, Piano Playhouse).

Catalog now belongs to VSOP records which have reissued them all on vinyl and cd (except #116 & 121 Vinyl only).
There are possibly other unreleased Mode (130, 200-206), actually issued by VSOP.

Notes:
Red Clyde probably produced all releases (still unconfirmed though probable on Mode #102, #112, #116, #118, #121, #124), except Mode #127 (produced by Leonard Feather)
Engineers (all Dayton "Bones" Howe), but:
* Thorne Nogar: Mode #100, #103, #105
* Ralph Valentin: Mode #106
* Robert Arnold: Mode #118
* Earl Brown, Gene Thompson: Mode #127
Liner Notes (all Joe Quinn), but:
* except Jeff Barr (Jeffrey?): Mode #128
* except Leonard Feather: Mode #127
* Mode #123?
Cover Portraits (lavish): Eva Diana
* except William Box (Bill Box?): Mode #120, #124, #125, #127, #129
* except Zim Craus: Mode #128
* Mode #123?

Recording locations:
Radio Recorders, CA, USA (unconfirmed #100, #103, #110, #113, #122, #125), except:
* #118 & 127 Unknown Studio, NYC, USA
