Alcazar Productions

Founded by Joan Pelton in 1977, Alcazar was composed of working dance musicians and callers. The original intent of the corporation was to research, record and publish traditional dance music and, originally partnering with Philo Records, make it available to interested individuals everywhere. The belief was that good dance music of all types could also be good listening music, and that making good dance records available would foster the tradition of using live music for dancing.

Alcazar was the sister company of Silo Systems, a music distribution company not to be confused with various corporations in the midwest. Alcazar acted as the consumer front-end for Silo and when children's music Silo was importing from Canada proved to be extremely popular, Alcazar established a children's label called Alacazam! and produced several notable releases including Priscilla Herdman's StarDreamer.

Unfortunately in the mid-1990's Joan's health began to fail and her missing guidance eventually contributed to both companies decline. In 1998 the much reduced companies and a limited part of the catalog were sold to NewSound, LLC which itself was sold a few years later to Allegro.
