CBS/Sony Inc. (company, primarily a manufacturer/distributor; do not use as an imprint)

A 50/50 joint venture between CBS Inc. and Sony Japan that was formed on March 11, 1968 as CBS/Sony Records Inc., the company was renamed CBS/Sony Inc. in 1973, and 10 years later, to mark its 15th anniversary, was renamed once again in 1983 as CBS/Sony Group Inc. In January 1988, after Sony had acquired CBS Records Inc. and the half of CBS/Sony Group Inc. it did not already own, the label became a wholly-owned Sony subsidiary, and the CBS/Sony imprint eventually was renamed Sony Records (owned today by Sony Music Records Inc., a unit of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.) in April 1991.
