Pathé

~ Label

Annotation

One of the oldest labels, Pathé started selling pre-recorded cylinders as far as 1895, and discs in 1915.
In December 1928, the French and British Pathé phonograph assets were sold to the British Columbia Graphophone Company (forerunner of EMI prior to 1931). In July 1929, the assets of the American Pathé record company were merged into the newly formed American Record Corporation. The Pathé and Pathé-Marconi labels still survive, first as imprints of EMI (the company formed in 1931) and now currently EMI's parent Universal Music Group.
