Loveless Love
~ Aufnahme von Noble Sissle and His Orchestra
Anmerkung
Brunswick E-36122-A
Originally recorded for Brunswick.
All discographers agree on the date, except Hans J. Mauerer (24 January). The band was named The Georgia Syncopators on the Melotone label and the Missouri Jazz Band on the Supertone label. Hans J. Mauerer and Brian Rust go for Pinckney, the French for Plackney. Bechet played a bass (even perhaps a contrabass?) sax in his early days with Sissle, who had arrangements in the 'book' which required it, but the sound here lacks the depth that a bass sax would bring; it is of course debatable whether Bechet could read the saxophone part as scored for the ensemble passages anyway. A low-pitched saxophone can only be heard in the ensemble. Drummer Freddie Moore, in an interview (?from the Tulane archives?) used in the BBC radio programme “Le Silver Bell” 1984, stated that Bechet played baritone with Sissle. So it make sense to credit Bechet on baritone.
Vocals for Loveless Love in thebooklet for Bechet Complete American Masters are credited together with track 15 to Noble Sissle and to no-one in (1). There are clear female vocals on the track. Lavaida Carter http://musicbrainz.org/artist/c2df8db4-2d07-477d… performed this song with Noble Sissle's Orchestra, but in 1934 according to (1) so unknown
Bechet is credited as all of clarinet, soprano and baritone sax for 1:15-18 in the booklet for Bechet Complete American Masters while (1) gives details of which in which.
Lloyd Pinckney may be called Floyd Plackney (1)
The booklet for Bechet Complete American Masters gives unknown trumpeter as Demas Dean while (1) gives Arthur Briggs
Frank Etheridge is credited as Frank Ethridge in both sources (and that may be his real name but it appears to be the same Artist)
Eddie Cole is credited as Edward Coles (legal name)
