Aantekening
This list of related recordings appears to be in need of additional information.
According to the Chandos page for the release HENRY PURCELL Dido and Aeneas (CHAN 00521), this recording includes the whole of Act III and goes on from "The Witches' Dance" to include:
Recitative (Dido, Belinda & Aeneas)
Your counsel all is urg'd in vain
Chorus Great minds against themselves conspire
Recitative (Dido) Thy hand, Belinda
Song (Dido) When I am laid in earth
Chorus With drooping wings ye cupids come
Dance (Cupids)
Without access to a copy of this release, I am loath to make corrections.
Also, the recording is linked to another release to which I also do not have access. That release is Milestones: 30 Years of Chandos (ANNI 0030)
According to various sources (Amazon Reviewer, AllMusic.com, Music Web International), Disc 16 of Milestones: 30 Years of Chandos (ANNI 0030) was simply HENRY PURCELL Dido and Aeneas (CHAN 0521) re-packaged for the boxed set. Therefore, I believe that correcting the details for CHAN 0521 will maintain consistency for ANNI 0030.
After considering the evidence and taking into account the credibility of the sources, I am convinced that adding the remainder of Act III to this recording is the correct course of action.
Following an exhaustive search through the Chandos catalogues on the Chandos web site, it is evident that Chandos made only one recording of Dido and Aeneas with the Taverner Choir and Taverner Players, conducted by Andrew Parrott with solos by Emma Kirkby, Judith Nelson, and David Thomas. There are other Chandos recordings of the same work with other performers, and The Taverner Players and Choir feature in recordings of the same work under other labels. However, this particular combination of work, performers and label was never repeated.
This paves the way for tidying up the database as there are some recordings which must be edits of this original recording. First would be to add the relationship. Next would be, with very great caution, to merge some recordings.
