At the beginning, I hated this album.

I had been a fan of Alvvays ever since that day in 2019 when Spotify played Atop a Cake as a suggested track right after my playlist ended. I fell in love with the song immediately as it played, it made me feel the same feelings that I would feel towards a person. As time went on, I started listening to more and more of their songs, and years later, without knowing it, Alvvays had become one of my favorite music bands. I loved their style, I loved every single one of their songs, and most importantly, their music evoked in me a feeling of nostalgia towards 2019, the happiest year of my life that had since been succeeded by darker times with no seeming ending at sight.

Enter 2022, the year with one of my lowest points ever, and along with it, Blue Rev. Late in 2022, I was seriously struggling emotionally, and when I first listened to Blue Rev, I couldn't make sense of any of it. It was so dramatically different to the sound of my beloved self-titled and Antisocialites, that I couldn't help but feel even more nostalgia, this time directed towards the old Alvvays. Molly's voice was so low that I could barely hear it, and the wall of noise in the album was nothing but noise to me. Those warm and nostalgic vibes were now gone. Alvvays had disappointed me, and Blue Rev was way below my expectations, and I felt anger.

Enter 2023, still struggling emotionally but trying to get out of the rut and fighting to be happy once again. It was a transitional year full of change, self-reflection, personal growth, and self-improvement. One day in 2023, I decided to give Blue Rev another chance, this time with a different mindset and with my mind open to change, and it took a while, but it grew on me, in fact, it grew on me so much that it changed it all for me.

The wall of noise started making sense for the first time, and soon thereafter I had lost count of how many times I had sang all of its songs in how many places. Blue Rev became, not only one of my favorite albums ever, but also my companion and therapist, always there for me wherever I went, and no matter how I felt. Blue Rev became the soundtrack of one of the most important stages of my life, and it will always hold a very special place in my heart.
