Under the spanking new guise of Catz N Dogz, two Polish producers called Grzegorz and Wojchiech (we know) are instigating a not-so-gentle storm through club land's floors. Formerly recognised among the dance music fraternity as 3 Channels, this best-friend duo have taken full advantage of their new pseudonym by making a smooth move from banging techno to deep house. The result is a highly palatable one.
Dark and eerie in parts, sunny and uplifting in corners, Stars Of Zoo yields 12 strong tunes, each with a unique and fierce impact. Take track two, for instance. With its spooky bassline, freaky bleeps and creepy drums, this cut may not be everyone's cuppa, but there's no denying it has serious presence. In stark contrast, the vibe of the tribal-influenced Sunset In The East is far more melodic and euphoric, yet still powerfully, in-yer-face noticeable.
Of course, there are faults and none worse than the annoyingly over-produced, mind-jarring Kill The Frog. Kill it? With pleasure. Pass me a stiletto.
With its high-octane drums and dirty basslines, on the surface, Stars Of Zoo could easily be just another drug-induced raver's journey. If you look beyond the obvious though, you may just discover a deep dance gem.
