Bleep-and-bass runs in Evan Majumdar-Swift’s family - his dad was a promoter for legendary Sheffield night Jive Turkey back in the day. It’s no surprise, then, that Majumdar-Swift proves a dab hand across these four tracks for Central Processing Unit (Silicon Scally, Neil Landstrumm). Three of the cuts on Provisional Electronics boing around the monitors with a chirpy glee. Shades of electro and acid on the grooves mean that the likes of ‘000’ and ‘100’ will work well in many a DJ set. The outlier is ‘085’, which remains bloopy but incorporates some warm keys that could be jacked from the world of Balearic house. Strangely enough, this is CPU’s first release by a Sheffield artist.
