Universal Island Records (not for release label use; a division of Universal Music Operations Limited)
~ Platenmaatschappij
Aantekening
not likely an imprint—typically referred to as "Universal Island Records, a division of Universal Music Operations Limited" in fineprint on release packaging, and named as ℗ and/or © rights holders. label code on such releases would likely be LC01846 (which belongs to Universal itself). regard what's said below with some caution, particularly on the reliance on label codes to distinguish which label should be used…
previous annotations by @jarvo:
European/Worldwide branch of UMG, used for distribution of releases on Universal, MCA, Island, and Motown labels, controlled by Universal Music UK.
For many releases on this label, two catalogue numbers are provided. It is usually the case that one is for a local/national branch (e.g. CID for Island UK) and a numerical version that forms the basis of the barcode that applies to Europe/Australia/Rest of the World. Please separate the catalogue numbers according to the release events. e.g.
1999 - UK - CID 9999 - Island Records UK.
1999 - Europe - 99999-2 - Universal Island.
CHECK THE LABEL CODE: For newer releases, it's important to check the label code when adding them to this label, only releases with LC-01846 (i.e. Universal Music UK) should be added here, if LC-00407 is displayed on the cover, then it should be added to Island Records instead.
Using the logos on the back cover can also help tell the difference, this imprint (01846) generally has 2 logos, one of 'Island Records Group', and another of 'Universal Records', the other imprint (00407) generally has the one palm tree Island logo.
