Cello Concerto in E minor, op. 58: III. Tema e variazioni - Coda (a number of cuts)
~ Work
Annotation
“Taking its cue from Prokofiev’s own penchant for constant revision, the present performance makes a number of cuts in the last movement, thereby underlining the inherent solo-tutti balance of power that was to become the salient characteristic of the later Op125 version. In its way, therefore, it can be regarded as a ‘combined version’ seeking to fuse the virtues of the two Prokofiev works.” @
The above quote from the English liner notes to Philips 434 166-2 release seem to be the only mention of this. (The German is a translation of the English, the French and Italian both original but apparently commissioned to relate Prokofiev’s Op58 & 125 versions only. And the 2 other Releases in same Group have no scans to compare with.)
