Annotation

George Gershwin's 1917 novelty rag "Rialto Ripples" was his first published instrumental, and was a commercial success. It has all the hallmarks of Gershwin's piano style, with stride left hand patterns and ragtime syncopation typical of that era. "Supposedly co-composed with Will Donaldson (1891-1954). It should be checked whether Donaldson actually contributed in the composition of this piece, as at that time it was common for new composers to be 'paired' with older ones in order to increase sales." – imslp

in some sources, Donaldson was acknowledged as co-composer: http://www.alfred.com/Products/Rialto-Ripples--00-PA02507A.aspx — while in others, he was merely credited as the arranger of the work: http://www.alfred.com/Products/Rialto-Ripples-Rag--00-PS2142.aspx
